Kristaps Anskens

Hi there, my name is

I am a photographer from a small town in Latvia called Ventspils. It has been a pleasure to photoshoot concerts in my hometown for some great musicians, so I would like to do it more in different concert halls — all around the world.

I have been a freelance photographer since 2017 and have done various work like weddings, sports, real estate architecture, other events and products, and worked for a newspaper as a press photographer. I moved to Milan recently to find a place for my photography, particularly in music. I may not have a musical education, but I’m a passionate listener. My previous work in the acoustic concert hall has taught me to be silent and unnoticeable, like a ninja. I believe the artists on stage are the substantial element for the audience, not me, with my camera distracting them.

Kimmo Pohjonen

musician/composer

“I am very glad to see how Kristaps Anskens can catch the moment and movement of the music and musician at his pictures. Works !”

John Kameel Farah

Pianist/composer

“To be honest, those are some of the most interesting pictures that have been taken of me while performing.”

Vestard Shimkus

pianist/composer

The photographic moments captured by Kristaps Anskens during the concert are incredibly expressive and vibrant — like a frozen flash of motion that seems ready to ‘come to life’ at any moment. The photographer’s talent for capturing such brief, fleeting, yet aesthetically striking moments during a concert is truly admirable, as is his ability to be in the right place at the right time, remaining invisible and inaudible to both — the musician and the audience.
